Shamama is not made from one flower. It is called "The King of Attars" because it takes 15 days to make.

Ingredients:

A secret mix of 20+ natural herbs & spices - Saffron, Agarwood (Oud), Sandalwood, Rose, Mogra (Jasmine), Clove, Cardamom, Nutmeg, Coriander, Cinnamon, and many more.

How Shamama Attar is Made - The Ancient Kannauj Method

2. Loading the Deg

After 15 days, the sandalwood oil is now Shamama Attar. We store it in leather bottles or earthen pots for 1-2 months. This ageing makes the fragrance even richer and longer lasting.

4. Ageing

In another copper vessel called "Bhapka", pure Sandalwood Oil is kept.The Deg is heated on a low flame furnace for 15 days continuously. The steam carrying the essence of all 20+ herbs travels through a bamboo pipe and gets absorbed into the Sandalwood Oil in the Bhapka.That is why Shamama's color becomes dark brown/black and its smell becomes so deep.

1. Grinding the Herbs

All herbs and spices are sun-dried and coarsely ground. This is called the "Masala".

3. Deg-Bhapka Distillation (The Heart of the Process)

In Kannauj, we use a large copper vessel called "Deg". Water goes at the bottom and the Masala is placed on a sieve above it. The Deg is sealed with clay.
